The Mummy is one of the best occult action flick when it was released a decade ago and til today, it remained a great franchise that spawned two sequels, the latest being the upcoming The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Vivendi Games and Sierra Entertainment are counting on the popularity of this movie to make the accompanying Wii game a success.

Tomb of the Emperor sees Brendan Fraser reprise his role as Rick O’Connell and this time his adventures transport him and his family to ancient China where his son Alex unknowingly brought Emperor Qin (played by a convincing Jet Li from Romeo Must Die) back from the dead. Players will basically take turns to control different lead characters in a bid to put the Emperor and his terra cotta warriors back into eternal slumber.

This hack-and-slash game will see players taking control of the Wiimote and Nunchuk to battle the ancient Chinese army. Not only that, the game developers revealed that there will be fast and furious hand-to-hand combat as well as exciting gunplay. Besides thrilling combat, players will also need to solve puzzles in order to unlock mysterious chambers and collect hidden treasure in order to advance through the game. I was most amused to hear that a three-headed Gorgon will be one of the bosses you’ll fight in the game, though for the life of me I cannot imagine how this mythical monster fits in with ancient Chinese history. There’s also a little hieroglyphic coding to complete but again, I am not certain how this is relevant in the storyline.

Overall, I think this game is worth playing simply for its entertainment value. Not to mention, we get to kill Jet Li the baddie!

What do you get when you cross a whip, a fedora and some Lego blocks? The new Lego Indiana Jones game of course! The Lego Indiana Jones: the Original Adventures is set to be released on the PSP as well as other handheld platforms like the Nintendo DS as well the XBOX 360 and PS3. LucasArts is banking on the hype generated from the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie in hope of making this game a success.

Like its Star Wars predecessor, Lego Indiana Jones will feature a myriad of familiar characters done in blocky Lego form. I find this very appealing and charming as I have fond memories of enjoying Lego-play when I was a child, so why shouldn’t I do the same for Lego video games now that I’m an adult? I expect to see witty dialogues and cheesy humor in this game and I wasn’t disappointed. Lego Indiana Jones for the PSP follows Indy’s adventures throughout the first three films from the franchise: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and the Last Crusade.

If you wander around Indy’s Barnett College, you’ll find that LucasArts has developed this game nicely and inserted good details strewn all over the game. You can access various rooms in the college and gain a barrage of goodies that come in the form of exclusive cutscenes and unlockable characters once you earn enough in-game tokens. Like the original Lego Star Wars games, Indy will be able to hop on virtually any mode of transportation in the game. I’m looking forward to seeing Indy ride on an elephant in true Lego style, blocky trunks and all!
